FAQ-IPL Eyewear

What is IPL?
IPL is an acronym for intense pulsed light, a type of light therapy. IPL is different than laser and eyewear needs to be IPL specific.
What is the difference between Shade 3 and Shade 5 IPL glasses?

Shade 3: Lighter shade for higher visibility with a VLT (Visible Light Transmission) of 9%.

Shade 5: Darker shade for sensitive eyes with a VLT (Visible Light Transmission) of 7%.

What type of patient eyewear do you recommend for dry eye IPL treatment?

We recommend using either our IPL Vee-Shields (Laser Vee-Shields also work) or one of our patented patient goggles (PTCE-III, BBCE). The Vee-Shields allow clinicians to get in close to the orbital rim. The IPL handpiece will allow access to the curvature of the eyes, while not bumping into a patient goggle.

What eyewear options are there for IPL operators?

We offer 2 different fit-over frame styles (8×2, 701), a sport wrap around style (757), and a wrap-around style (MXL). Each IPL frame is available in both shade 3 and shade 5 lenses.

What IPL frame would you recommend for operators with smaller faces?

We recommend the MXL frame style.

How do I choose between the frame styles?

We offer frames for all face shapes and sizes, as well as those with prescription eyewear. Please contact us via email or phone call if you have any further questions.
